GLH Minutes of the Annual Meeting, October 6, 2007
The meeting was called to order at approximately 12:30 PM in Room #109 of the Northwestern University Music Administration Building by Secretary Jean Humphrey in the absence of President Rolliana Scheckler. Also present were Board members Elizabeth Cifani, Annette Bjorling, Carl Johnson, Susan Trotter, and Gretchen Sigwart, and approximately twenty members. Minutes of the 2006 Annual Meeting had been posted on the website and distributed to attendees at the registration desk. Corrections or comments were solicited; none were received. A motion to approve the minutes was offered by Ida Gannon, seconded by Gail Meyers, and passed unanimously by voice vote.
Treasurer Carol Hall had emailed her resignation and regrets for her inability to attend this meeting to the President and the Secretary. The annual treasurer's report will be posted on the upcoming members' only section of the website, and member approval and comments will be solicited by e-mail.
President Scheckler had requested that it be formally announced at the annual meeting that 501-C3 status had been awarded to GLH by the federal government. This is the official tax-exempt designation, which makes donations to GLH tax-deductible. Ms. Humphrey encouraged members to add donations to their dues payments and to encourage others to make donations.
Ms. Humphrey then announced that with this meeting, GLH would begin the annual rotation of Board Members' three-year terms. Those elected to one-year terms in 2006 to begin this cycle were: Joan Hau, Debra Sawyer, Susan Trotter, and Kelly Yousoufian. Nominating committee chair Gretchen Sigwart reported that all had agreed to be elected to the three-year term. Additional nominations from the floor were called for, but none were forthcoming. Gail Meyers moved that the slate be elected; Barb Fackler seconded; the voice vote was unanimous. Doran Blakeslee was nominated to replace Ms. Hall as Board Member, and this nomination was approved by the membership.
Under New Business, Ms. Humphrey called for comments from the floor. Barbara Eichler commented on how much she appreciated the Newsletter, and especially the music provided by the music editor, Annette Bjorling. Liz Cifani suggested a round of applause to thank Annette, which soon followed.
Ms. Humphrey introduced Board Member Susan Trotter and advised the members that she had accepted the position of web master. Ms. Trotter announced that redesign of the web site had begun. Additionally, the site will soon include a "members' only" section that would be password protected. The password will be distributed in the News and changed as needed.
There being no other business to conduct, Ann Galster moved we adjourn. The voice vote was again unanimous. The meeting adjourned at approximately 12:50 PM.
Respectfully submitted;
Jean Humphrey, Secretary
